There were just under 300 riders at the Creston ATV poker run. Because of high water Plan B was used which made the route over, for the most part high ground but riders said it was fun anyway. Some, including Casper Shuman got stuck in a big mud hole down in Beaver Dam. It was reported that some of the rescue efforts were captured on film.

Joyce Stover won the 50/50, Oma L. Murphy came in third, James Jarvis placed second and William Hively from Palestine was the winner.

The community would like to thank all those who came, those who worked and brought goodies, the merchants & others who donated door prizes and others who made the entire affair a great time for everyone.

Gay Park who had been "vacationing in the Camden-Clark Hospital" is now home and on the mend. A medicine to help the heart caused an ulcer which bled which required blood transfusions, and . . .

Rain continues to be the norm and in spite of cooler weather and scientific data, the zealots of the new faith based religion, "Global Warming" continue to preach and brainwash all in their path, especially the youth so that they can set up regulatory authorities to restrict what the peasants will be allowed to do after the proposed "Change" that some slick politicians have been promoting. It was interesting to note that Rev. Jesse Jackson suggested a surgical procedure for one slickster who he says he supports.

It was learned that a proposed settlement has been reached in the class action suit brought against Eastern American Energy Corp. although, apparently, few knew the suit was pending and only certain of the wells are involved. The papers state that wholly owned subsidiaries charged for transportation, etc. The settlement is $4.25 million of 73 cents per MCF.

It was learned that Chesapeake has been paying $10,000/acre bonuses for the Haynesville shale in Louisiana along with 27% royalty. When a leasing company was asked why they offered such small royalties and bonuses to West Virginians they responded that market research indicated that West Virginia residents were conditioned to think that anything here wasn't worth much and residents had been conditioned to expect but little.
