PACF GRANT MONIES AVAILABLE

(07/23/2008)
Our Community's Foundation - The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliate Foundations of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha Area (Wirt/Calhoun) - is currently accepting applications for grants for the fall cycle of its Community Action Grant Program. Applications must be postmarked by September 1.

Grants funds are available in the fall cycle from all the entities that are part of Our Community's Foundation (including PACF and each affiliate entity). Organizations apply to PACF and/or to any of the affiliate foundations on the same application form. Guidelines and application forms are available on the Foundation's web site at www.pacfwv.com or by contacting the Foundation at 304-428-4438 or toll free at 866-428-4438.

The Foundation has received special support from local and regional funders to enhance the grantmaking program for various affiliate foundations in the fall cycle. Doddridge County Community Foundation (DCCF) will have a special pool of funds available for grantmaking in fall 2008, due to the successful completion of a challenge grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Total grant funds available from DCCF this fall as a result of the Benedum challenge are $5,000.

The Jackson County Community Foundation (JCCF) fall grant cycle is being sponsored through the support of City National Bank. Additional funds also will be available from a grant through West Virginia Grantmakers Association and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to provide special funding for youth related programs and projects; therefore, organizations sponsoring youth-related programs are particularly encouraged to apply to JCCF in this cycle. This is a one-time opportunity, for fall 2008 only.

The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) will have a special pool of funds available for grantmaking in fall 2008, due to the successful completion of a challenge grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. Total funds available from LKACF as a result of the Babcock challenge are $5,000.

The Mason County Community Foundation (MCCF) fall grant cycle is being sponsored by the Gordon C. and Mildred R. Jackson Foundation. MCCF also has received a Community Capacity Grant from the Benedum Foundation through the West Virginia Grantmakers Association to provide special funding for youth related programs and projects; therefore, organizations sponsoring youth-related programs are particularly encouraged to apply to MCCF in this cycle. This is a one-time opportunity, for fall 2008 only.

To be considered for a Community Action Grant, an applicant must be a private, non-profit organization, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or a public institution. To be eligible for a grant from Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, either the applicant or program to be funded must be located in the Foundation's eleven-county geographic service area (Wood, Wirt, Doddridge, Ritchie, Pleasants, Roane, Calhoun, Gilmer, Jackson, and Mason counties in West Virginia, and Washington County in Ohio).

To be eligible for a grant from one of the affiliate foundations, either the application or the program to be funded must be located in the geographic area served by the affiliate. The Foundation's grantmaking guidelines provide additional information on eligibility. The Foundation considers requests in the fields of arts and culture, education, health and human services, recreation, youth and family services, and community and economic development. The Foundation currently focuses its support on capital and equipment projects, special programs, and technical assistance, training, and capacity building.

Priority is given to: start up of new projects/programs; seed money for pilot projects or for response to unmet or emerging community needs; matching grants that leverage additional funding; projects that reach a broad segment of the community; projects not adequately served by existing community resources; expansion of existing programs; urgent needs where prior planning for such needs could not have reasonably been made; and projects serving communities where the Foundation is the only community foundation in operation.

Generally, Community Action Grants are not made toward program operating costs, annual campaigns, endowments, sectarian religious purposes or political causes. Submitting an application does not guarantee funding, as the Foundation's resources for Community Action Grants are limited and the process is competitive.
