GRANTSVILLE POLICE WARN ABOUT SCAMS

(07/05/2008)
A cash payout scam was recently attempted on a elderly Grantsville woman, according to patrolman Jeff Starcher.

"The elderly lady brought in a letter that she received in the mail with the addressee being Q.F.C Inc," said Starcher.

The address was given as 112 Washington Street SE Dallas Texas, 74880, informing the unsuspecting woman that they drew the lucky numbers and she won $800,000.

The woman informed the Grantsville Police that the letter wanted her to send $2,682 back to a private address in South Carolina.

Most scams call this some kind of process charge.

Starcher said he called the telephone number on the letter and asked for the accounts manager.

"I learned that the telephone number was a personal telephone number, their answering machine was full," Starcher said.

The officer said there are lots of scams going on.

The old adage is if it's too good to be true, beware.
