The 821st Engineering Company with detachments in Spencer and Summersville are coming home from Iraq, Sunday, July 13. The troops are expected to land at Yeager Airport around 2 p.m.

There are about a dozen Calhoun men in the National Guard units.

Activated last July, the 821st is based in Summersville, with a detachment at the armory in Spencer.

About 50 soldiers left Spencer on chartered buses last July 21 and another 100 departed from Summersville the same day.

An official welcome home celebration is being planned later in Spencer.

Calhoun families are asking that local residents erect signs along Rt. 16 welcoming the soldiers home, likely this Saturday.

The soldiers have been stationed at Camp Liberty, near Baghdad.

The former 1092nd National Guard unit in Spencer was deployed in February 2003, a mission that lasted 14 months.

When that group returned to Spencer, including several Calhoun men, well-wishers lined the streets for a big homecoming, the soldiers arrived on buses.
