WHITED APPOINTED FAMILY LAW JUDGE - Position Will Be On Primary Ballot

(11/25/2001)
Calhoun County attorney and former Family Law Master, Larry Whited, has been appointed Family Law Judge in the newly formed 4th Family Court Circuit. The circuit covers Calhoun, Roane, Gilmer and Doddridge Counties. Whited, a Republican, was appointed by Governor Bob Wise. "I have special interest in family law, and hope to serve the region with skill, knowledge and fairness," said Whited.

Whited formerly practiced law in Calhoun and was Prosecuting Attorney in Roane County. The Family Law Master system will cease to exist, being replaced by a new family court system on January 1, 2002.

Whited's appointment will last through 2002. The position will be on the primary ballot and a Family Judge will be elected from the circuit next November. The newly elected judge will initially serve for six years, and eventually the term will be for eight years, according to Whited, who indicated he will be running for the judgeship.
