CALHOUN MAN DIES AFTER TRACTOR ROLL-OVER

(06/19/2008)
A 68-year-old Big Spring's man died Wednesday evening after he was crushed by a farm tractor following a roll-over.

Neighbors said Glennis E. "Buck" Kirby was moving round bales of hay with a fork lift device on a steep hillside, when the weight of the hay reportedly caused the tip-over.

Calhoun EMS quickly responded to the scene at 5:30 p.m., and managed to resuscitate Kirby, but he died while preparation was being made to life-flight him by chopper to a medical center.

Family members told the Herald that Kirby had been stricken with cancer and had started treatment.

County Medical Examiner Stacey Harlow investigated the death.

The Grantsville and Smithville Volunteer Fire Departments also responded to the scene, about one-half mile off State Rt. 16 between Big Springs and the Ritchie County line.

Funeral arrangements will be completed at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville.
