TWO-YEAR-OLD DEAD FROM ATV WRECK

(06/12/2008)
A 2-year-old Randolph County girl is dead after an ATV wreck near Valley Head.

Randolph County Sheriff Jack Roy says the accident happened Wednesday night on private property.

A 13-year-old was driving the four-wheeler, which was carrying the 2-year-old and another juvenile passenger.

WV has the highest incidence of accidents on ATVs in the nation, allowing the off-the-road vehicles to be ridden on state highways.

SAFETY RISKS FOR KIDS

The Children's Defense Fund's counsel, Susan Gates, said today that more preschoolers than law enforcement officers are killed by firearms each year nationwide.

More West Virginia children died from gunshot wounds in 2005 (19) than in either of the two previous years.
