ONE-ROOM SCHOOL PROJECT NEEDS FUNDS - Stevens School Project

(11/20/2001)
Work on the one-room Stevens School project at the Calhoun County Park continues, with hundreds of volunteer hours invested in its relocation. Roger Jarvis, a member of the Calhoun Historical Society, says work on the exterior is nearly completed.

The original windows are not useable, so new ones have to be made or others salvaged from similar buildings. The flooring is down and much of the ceiling has been installed.

The historical society's restoration fund is nearly depleted, being used for materials, with all labor being donated. A considerable amount of money is needed to complete the project.

The Society wishes to thank the many friends and former students of Stevens School who have donated time, material and money to the effort.

Efforts will continue to complete the one-room school, furnish it and open the structure to the public.

Much needed donations for the project are tax deductible and may be made to the Calhoun County Historical Society, P. O. Box 242, Grantsville WV 26147.
