SEVENTY-EIGHT WALTON RESIDENTS WILL GET WATER

State Director Rick E. Rice announces that Rural Development has approved a Water and Waste Disposal Grant in the amount of $230,000 for the Walton Public Service District in Roane County. "Public water service is currently not available within the proposed service area and residents must use private sources consisting mainly of ground wells and cisterns," explained Rice. Rural Development funds will be used to extend water service to approximately 78 new customers in the Clio and McKown areas of Roane County. This grant is subsequent funding in order to cover a construction cost over-run. A previous Rural Development loan of $180,000 and grant of $1,068,000 were committed in Fiscal Year 2003.
