The Calhoun-Gilmer Career center honored a number of their senior students prior to graduation, with this year's theme "Hopes and Dreams".

Director John Bennett welcomed the seniors and their guests to the school for a reception, a power point presentation and the awards ceremony.

Director Bennett and Administrative Council Member Larry Butcher presented a certificate and medallion to Justin Brown, Cassandra Buckhannon, Dillon Hashman, and John Sampson, who were recognized with the Outstanding Students Award.

These students missed no more than 5 days, maintained at least a 93% grade average, displayed acceptable attitudes in all phases of lab participation. They participated in all assigned classroom work, and actively participated in club activities.

Francis Tanner and Ernestine Ball presented a $1000 scholarship to Justin Brown on behalf of VFW Post 5959, Grantsville. This was the first year that the VFW sponsored this scholarship.

Kenneth Carpenter III received the Melissa Sue Oshoway Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship for $1000. This scholarship was presented by Mr. and Mrs. John Oshoway and Mike Jackson, Criminal Justice instructor.

The Earl J. Gainer Career Technical Education Student Award was established in 1990, to pay tribute to Mr. Gainer and to honor the student who best exemplifies career technical excellence.

This year's award was presented to Cassandra Buckhannon.

Administrative Council Member Larry Butcher presented a commemorative clock and $200 scholarship to Ms. Buckhannon.

The National Technical Honor Society advisor presented Justin Brown, Cassandra Buckhannon, Kenneth Carpenter III, Dillon Hashman with a Certificate, Honor Cord and NHTS pin.

Each year the Career Center awards four scholarships to graduating students who plan to pursue a career in their career and technical field.

David White recognized this year's winners - Kenneth Carpenter III, Justin Brown, Cassandra Buckhannon and Sabrina King with a Certificate and $100 scholarship.

Barbara Jones, Business Education Instructor presented FBLA Scholarships to Justin Brown, Chelsea Gragg, Chasity Friend and Kristin Dawson.

Ken Townsend, Metal Trades Instructor presented Dillon Hashman with a certificate for placing 2nd in the State Skills USA competition in the area of precision machining.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Whipkey with the assistance of Auto Technology instructor Jim Pierce presented the Michael P. Whipkey II Scholarship for a gift certificate for a tool set from Sears to Cecil Bell.

Administrative Council Member Steve Whited and Patty Cain presented a certificate and medallion to Cassandra Buckhannon and John Sampson for perfect attendance.

Director Bennett presented the Director's Program Area Instructor Award to Mrs. Barbara Jones. Mrs. Jones had the group of students that completed the state's end-of course testing last year with the highest percentage of students passing.

Mr. Bennett, assisted by Mr. Blankenship then presented the Ronald Blankenship Student Academic Award to those students who met the state goal on CTE end-of-course testing and WorkKeys academics in the areas of reading for information and applied mathematics.

This year's winners were Cecil Bell, Justin Brown Amanda Ellyson, Jenna Eltzroth, Elizabeth Frymier, Mary Godfrey, Chelsea Gragg, Ashley Hess, Karen Hickman, Kayla Hixon, Jamie Kennedy, Michele Knicley, and Florence Parsons. These students received a certificate and their name will be placed on a plaque to hang in the school's commons area.
