SMITH HOUSE BURNS IN GRANTSVILLE

(05/11/2008)

Fire rapidly spread through a modular home on Johnson Street,
Grantsville, late Saturday night and early Sunday morning

The Cozetta Smith residence at 102 Johnson Street in Grantsville was destroyed by fire late Saturday night.

It was occupied by Christopher Todd Smith, grandson of the owner.

Reports indicated Smith was helping his mother deliver the Parkersburg News at the time of the fire.

Grantsville firemen quickly responded to the blaze, saying the house was "engulfed" when they arrived shortly after the 11:42 p.m. 911 call.

The dwelling was fully engulfed when firemen arrived

About a dozen firemen and four trucks were still on the scene early Sunday morning, although the fire was quickly knocked down.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately determined.

Cpl. Jeff Hunt of the State Police and Grantsville Police Chief Charles Stephens responded, in addition to Calhoun EMS.
