$136 MILLION RT. 50 BRIDGE SET TO OPEN AT PARKERSBURG

(05/08/2008)
The most expensive bridge ever built in West Virginia will be dedicated next month.

The $136 million span is set to open June 13 and will carry motorist across the Ohio River on U.S. 50.

Travelers can now come down a 4-lane from Clarksburg, cross the Ohio River, and go into that state.

The route was one of 23 Appalachian corridors selected in 1965 under the Appalachian Development Highway System.

Funding for the 4,009-foot-bridge is being shared by West Virginia, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the federal government.
