BRAXTON MAGISTRATE CONVICTED

(05/08/2008)
A Braxton County jury found Magistrate Carolyn Cruickshanks guilty Wednesday of planning to retaliate against a witness who had testified against her son in a criminal case.

Cruickshanks' son, Jordan Grubb, was under investigation for drugs.

In an earlier trial Cruickshanks' case ended in a hung jury.

Testimony said the magistrate provided documents that were distributed to inmates in the jail.

The documents were copies of Philip Dailey's plea agreement.

Prosecutors say her son hoped other inmates would retaliate against Dailey.

Cruickshanks is on the ballot next Tuesday in Braxton County for another four-year term.

She was suspended without pay by the state Supreme Court last year.
