The black checkered flag was waved on a lot of very close, fast-paced car races Sunday, at the annual Awana Grand Prix race.

The event was held at Brooksville Baptist Church Family Life Center in Big Bend, with a full day of activities.

The day began with Sunday School and worship services. Lunch was served to a large crowd of rambunctious, excited children and their families, sporting some fine looking, fast cars.

Commander David Cain announced the starting lineup and the races were on with many going neck and neck to the finish line. A lot of smiles and a few tears were seen, but when the smoke cleared, Cassidy Nicholson was declared the overall Grand Champion winner of the day. There were some very tight races, where even the judges had to ask for a re-play. It was a fun-filled day to end the 2007-2008 Awana Year.

Thanks go to judges, Raymond Hall, Raymond Baker, Dave Prusack and Roger Griffin, and to the bracket workers, Matt and Nichole Kirby.

Sunday's Grand Prix Race is "one way we show our children how much we appreciate them coming to Awanas each Wednesday night of the regular school year," said Sue Williams.

The main goal of AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) is to reach kids for the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. We thank all who had a part in this special day.
