ROANE MAN IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER RT. 36 CRASH

(05/06/2008)
A Roane County man was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Sunday night near his home in Newton.

It happened on Route 36 on what is known as the "Dog Creek Straight" near Newton.

Roane County deputy sheriff Mike King identified the driver as 32-year-old Jason Elrod, the accident happened about one mile from his home.

He is in Charleston General Hospital in serious condition.

Elrod lost control of his car and ran off the road, causing the car to flip on its side.

Police said the car then slid into a tree and landed in a ravine, where Elrod was thrown from the vehicle.

Deputy King said it does not appear that Elrod was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, with speed believed to be a factor in the crash.
