Flara B. Gherke, 97, of Grantsville, West Virginia, died April 24, 2008, at Minnie Hamilton Health System, Grantsville. She was born at Rush Run, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John and Biddie Kerby. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lower Steer Run Baptist Church at Normantown. Mrs. Gherke is survived by her children and their spouses, C. Eugene and Joan Gherke of Millsboro, Delaware, Marge Gherke of Grantsville, Pauline Vanhorn of Sissonville, Jurlene and Bill Thorn of Spencer, Radene and Bill Kuhl of Walker, Lorene and David Hathaway of Elkview, Arlene Kay and Russell Smith of Williamstown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Webster of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Cleburn L. Gherke; a son, Ardene Gherke of Grantsville; a son-in-law, Ardith Vanhorn of Sissonville; sisters, Almedia Stump and Goldie Ball; and brothers, Allie, Simon, Hagan and Bob. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Elder Mark Minney and the Rev. Curtis Smith will officiate. Interment will be in the Collins Community Cemetery at Stumptown with the Rev. David Vanhorn officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial donations be made to Minnie Hamilton Health System, 186 Hospital Drive, Grantsville, WV 26147.
