MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER CRAWLING ACROSS GRANTSVILLE STREET

(04/23/2008)
Grantsville Police are looking for some positive identification and the names of relatives of a man they arrested yesterday after he was crawling across Main Street.

Grantsville Police Chief Charles Stephens said the man, who said his name was Caleb Smith, was crawling across the street on his hands and knees.

The officer said he appeared "homeless," having no identification. When pulled from the street, he said "The Lord had led him on a journey, and He was teaching him a lesson in humility by making him crawl..."

The Grantsville Police took the man into custody and placed him in Central Regional Jail on an obstruction charge.

Police said the man said he would "finish the last of his five laps" (across the street) after he is released.

Identification or information regarding the man, call Chief Charles Stephens 304-354-6400 or Calhoun Control at 304-354-9271.
