UNIQUE WEDDING PLANNER - Sharshon New County Resident

(04/28/2008)
Nica Sharshon has made a major change in place, coming to rural Big Bend from a Philadelphia suburb.

The former college teacher and wedding planner says she searched the East cost for real estate prices and low taxes that she could afford, and came up with a house in the village of Big Bend.

"I was paying $6,000 annually in taxes. Here the taxes on this place is $200," she said.

Sharshon's move to the country was made after the death of her husband and mother, both died in the past two years.

"I'm just trying to settle in and meet people," she said.

The teacher has a master's degree in theology and Christian history from Villanova University, and has taught at Temple University and a number of other colleges, including courses in religion, critical thinking, writing and philosophy.

"But its been helping couples plan their wedding that I've really enjoyed," she said, "mostly the actual ceremony, the exchanging of vows."

"I tell couples, you're unique and so is your wedding," she said.

Ceremonies she has helped plan have involved many beliefs - "Ceremonies that are true to the couple, who they are, and meeting their spiritual needs."

Sharshon says she has planned lots for weddings from A to Z, including the exchanging of vows from simple to complex.
