board members to Arnoldsburg School

Board members enjoy student presentations

Projects, activities and accomplishments were highlighted by the Arnoldsburg School's Local School Improvement Council Tuesday evening, a presentation before the local school board.

Arnoldsburg principal Bryan Sterns said he was proud of his staff and parents, many of which are involved in school activities and projects.

Dottie Nemitz presented a video produced by the school's students with the help of Jim Sullivan, which helped with the school's fundraising to purchase and install new lockers, a $15,000 project.

Arnoldsburg teacher Tami Allen told board members about the school's students reaching education benchmarks, acknowledging their accomplishments.

A number of other LSIC members discussed WESTEST data, good school attendance, successful fundraising efforts of the PTO, Heads Up, and other accomplishments.

The 2008-2009 School Calendar was approved. Early dismissal was approved for Professional Development to Implement County Improvement Plan, tentative dates April 25, May 23, June 6.

The board went into executive session for 20 minutes related to personnel matters.

The board approved the following personnel actions:

- Job Postings: Title I Supervisor (Central Office) 07-08; Instructional Technology Supervisor (County) 07-08; Director of School Improvement (Central Office) 07-08 - Amended; Custodian III (Pleasant Hill Elementary) 08-09; Custodian III (Calhoun Middle/High School) 08-09; Cook III/Cafeteria Manager (Pleasant Hill Elementary) 08-09; Science Teacher (Includes Biology) (Calhoun Middle/High School) 08-09.

- Employment: Probationary Contracts for Marisha Collins and Wilbert Kerby; Roy Davidson, Richard Parsons, Mathew Taylor, Kevin Boak, Jason Walker, Shelly Mace, Lisa Walker, Daniel Beall, Bonnie Sands, Melanie Garrett, Ashley Fox, Samantha Jarvis Bobbi Bell, Robyn Ellison, Tami Allen, Patricia Riddle, Whitney Ritchie, Ernest Tingler.

- Continuing Contracts: Barry Miller, Shelly Ratliff, Kristin Smith, Adam O'Harrow, Seana Miller, Jamie Wagoner, Connie Summers, Teresa Goodnight, Amber Ganoe, Casey Harris, Melissa Jones, Joyce Morgan.

Mrs. Dale moved and Mr. Wilson seconded that Special Education Supervisor contract be changed to 240 days, with the motion carrying unanimously.

- Administrative Contracts: Kathryn Nichols - Special Education Supervisor; Patricia Riddle - Director of Finance; Karen Kirby - Principal - Calhoun Middle/High School; Carla Taylor - Assistant Principal - Calhoun Middle/High; School Bryan Sterns - Principal - Arnoldsburg Elementary; Jacqueline Shimer - Principal - Pleasant Hill Elementary.

- Employee Transfer: Melanie Garrett - Elementary Teacher (CMHS) 08-09.

- Transportation Request: WVU-P, Parkersburg, College Tour, April 29, 2008, Melissa Jones; Bridgeport High School, Academic Team, April 19, 2008, Norma Randall-Myers.

- Finance: 2008-2009 Budget Hearing; 2008-2009 Budget Approval.

School board members expressed appreciation to Arnoldsburg school faculty, staff and students.

Board president Lee Evans spoke about funding for new wrestling mat.

The next board meeting is May 5th at Mt. Zion.
