Cloris K. Hickel, 85 - Parkersburg

Cloris K. Hickel, 85, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, went to be with her Lord on April 15, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 4, 1922, in Roane County, WV, the daughter of the late Harry P. and Viola A. George Thompson. She was a member of Hope Freewill Baptist Church, was a dedicated Democrat and was known to everyone she met as "mom" or "grandma." She was also an avid quilter and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She is survived by eight daughters, Ethel Barnhart and husband, Coleman, of St. Marys, Faye Marlow of Parkersburg, Vora Dennewitz of Parkersburg, Dolly Godfrey and husband, Jerry, of Calhoun County, Agnes Spellman of Parkersburg, Jean Cottrill and husband, Terry, of Dallison, Kathy Dille and husband, Ted, of Mineral Wells and Lynn Hickel of Parkersburg; four sons, Clyde Hickel and wife, Linda, of Walker, Vergil Hickel and wife, Angie, Denver Hickel Sr. and wife, Connie, Buck Hickel and wife, Nancy, all of Parkersburg; one brother, Donald Thompson of Parkersburg; 130 total grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and four nieces who held a special place in her heart, Kathryn, Mae, Ruth and Helen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hickel in 1968; two sisters, Vera Buck and a baby sister Thompson; one brother, Harry O. Thompson; great-grandson, Roseman Lee Boley; and two sons-in-law, David L. Dennewitz and William Spellman.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Kenny Welch and Bud Corbin officiating. Burial will follow at Mayberry Cemetery, Palestine, WV. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
