Black smoke rises from a tire fire and
burning woodlands at Cabot Station

A pile of tires apparently set on fire quickly spread to nearby woods and fields at Cabot Station yesterday afternoon at 3:20 p.m.

The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to an area near the residence of Donald (Duck) Stevens.

Ignited grass burned close to the Stevens residence.

Firemen used hose lines to put out the blaze.

Forrester Larry Cook responded to the scene.

Firemen indicated a citation for the burning would likely be issued, saying there was a suspect who lived along Rt. 5 who said he ignited the tires.
