GRANTSVILLE WOMAN SENTENCED IN DRUG CASE

(04/17/2008)
A Grantsville woman was sentenced this week in a long-standing drug case.

Sara Beecher of Leafbank Rd. was arrested in 2005 after State Police, the Calhoun Sheriff's Department and the Grantsville Police Department executed a search warrant on her residence.

Beecher was sentenced to three years probation, thirty 24 hour days in Central Regional Jail during non-working days, 100 hours of litter and community service.

The sentencing also required Beecher to seek drug counseling.

Authorities said that Beecher sold a "confidential and reliable informant" a quantity of methamphetamine, claiming that Beecher had a larger quantity stored at her Leafbank residence.

Three others were also arrested at the time.

Police said during the 2005 search of Beecher's residence, they discovered a quantity of what they believed to be methamphetamine, baggies and other materials used in delivery.

In other action this week in Circuit Court, the failure to register as a sex offender case against Bernard Smith is being scheduled for a jury trial.
