The big activity in the Creston area is the first of the Creston Community Building's ATV poker run which is scheduled for Saturday, April 19. Signup will begin around 8 a.m. and by 9 o'clock riders can head around the route. At the last business meeting all details were ironed out and riders should be able to enjoy a day of fun, watch wildlife, smell the flowers and, if one has the inclination, play in the mud. The local cooks have been busy fixing up goodies for the riders and several merchants have donated some fine door prizes. There will be one feller's special upside down cake and another woman's cheesecake.

Rev. Carlos Nutter brought the message at the Burning Springs M.E. church. Preaching is now at 9 a.m.

W. Harrison Schenerlein IV celebrated his first birthday with a party at his home in Vienna. His Aunt Anna motored in from Virginia for the event and all his local relatives were on hand for the occasion.

It was noted that legal turkey season is so late this year the hens likely have little ones before it comes in. Spring continues to advance with trees blooming, birds singing, toads trilling and such.

Some of Steve Loudin's family were visiting him and riding four wheelers.

Danny Knopp was attending to business in Spencer and inquiring about Denver McFarland. W.H. Schenerlein IV was also a Spencer business visitor.

Gary Ferrell is on the mend after being in a head on crash near Five Forks. He was life flighted since he had a head injury. He noted that he was pretty sore.

Eva G. Pennington was consulting her physician.

A commentator on the Tee Vee noted that, electioneering aside, 98% of the mortgages are not in default and 95% of the workforce is employed and that in most parts of the country there is a labor shortage.

Her Thighness, Madame Hillary came out against a trade deal with Columbia that would help them deal with the Marxist next door in Venezuela while her husband was paid $800,000 to lobby for the special deal. One might say that is how one covers all bases. The Clintons also made $15 million in a partnership that went through offshore banks with Sheik Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktourn who is the ruler of Dubai. Meantime, B. Hussein Obama who also wants to be president explained to friends in San Francisco how he looks at folks who live in "small towns". He noted that they are bitter and have animosity against people that "aren't like them" since they cling to religion and guns. To reword it, such is the view of the elite of those who live in "flyover country" which would include, for sure, Creston and environs where folks drive Fords, eat biscuits, corn bread, venison & ramps. The term used to be "the great unwashed". The Sunday school lesson was on the Book of Daniel which gives some serious discussion about those who "cling to religion" and those who don't.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil is $103.75/bbl although last week local crude was selling for $104. It was learned that across the line in Pennsylvania leases for Marcellus production are being traded for $2,000/acre. Thus the Texas folks who are paying $30/acre for 5 year paid up leases are doing quite well and local residents are, as usual, kept poor.
