The local conventions are "An exciting way to get involved with the local party," says State Democratic Executive Committee Director Tom Vogel.

"They'll go to the State Convention, where each Congressional District will divide up and those delegates will elect the delegates that attend the National Convention based on the vote of the people on May 13th Primary. That determines how many delegates each candidate gets," Vogel explained.

Previously the delegates were chosen on the election ballot itself, largely based on name recognition.
