A Grantsville man climbed out the back window of his sports utility vehicle after it crashed Tuesday morning near the top of Town Hill, just north of Grantsville.

Jason Smith, proprietor of Smith's Service Station in Grantsville, was transported to Minnie Hamilton Health Care by Calhoun EMS, shortly after the 9 a.m. accident. He was taken to a Parkersburg hospital for further evaulation, after which he was released.

Smith was traveling south on State Route 16 when his vehicle went out of control in a sharp turn.

The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call. Sheriff Allen Parsons and the West Virginia State Police are investigating.
