ECONOMIC SLUMP BRINGS STAGGERING 250,000 JOB LOSSES - 84 Lumber Closing 30 Operations

Jittery employers slashed 80,000 jobs last month in the USA. Job losses are nearing the staggering level of a quarter-million this year in just three months. Nationwide declines in the housing market continues to hit the state with the closure of 84 Lumber retailers. The Williamstown 84 Lumber facility is one of 30 stores nationwide that's shutting down. The Mineral Wells store will remain open. The 84 closings among the 30 stores will affect 230 employees. A spokesman for the Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, based company says the closings will help it weather the nationwide housing market decline. It now has 368 stores and 13 manufacturing facilities in 37 states.
