WOMEN'S OPPORTUNITY FUND SCHOLARSHIPS

(03/27/2008)
Our Community's Foundation (the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliate Foundations of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha Area (Wirt/Calhoun) - announces the availability of scholarships through the Women's Opportunity Fund - Linda Culp Memorial Scholarship.

This fund offers scholarships for women seeking to return to school to complete their education or who need additional education to achieve higher-level career aspirations.

Applications are invited from women residing in the service regions of St. Joseph's Hospital where Mrs. Culp worked for 30 years, and the foundation, which includes the counties of Wood, Tyler, Pleasants, Ritchie, Wirt, Calhoun, Roane, Jackson, Doddridge, Gilmer and Mason in West Virginia, and Washington, Athens, and Meigs in Ohio.

Recipients are selected by an independent scholarship advisory committee. The scholarship can be applied toward tuition, books or other education or career-related materials needed. The fund intentionally seeks applicants who are not recent high school graduates.

This year, through a special challenge grant from the Sisters of Saint Joseph Charitable Fund, the foundation will be able to award a larger number of scholarships and will have a special pool of scholarship funds available for women who are pursuing education related to health-care fields.

This grant also enables new gifts to the fund to be matched on a one-to-one basis, doubling the impact of any contribution and allowing even more women to receive support in the future.

Donations to the fund are welcome at any time and can be sent to the foundation at P.O. Box 1762, Parkersburg, WV, 26102. Contributions are fully tax-deductible as the foundation is a public charity.

While grant funds from the Sisters of Saint Joseph Charitable Fund will enable the foundation to provide additional scholarships in health-care fields this year, women pursuing other fields of study will remain eligible and are encouraged to apply.

The application form is available on the Foundation's web site: www.pacfwv.com. Application forms also are available via e-mail (send your request to info@pacfwv.com) or by calling (304) 428-4438. Applications must be postmarked by June 1, 2008.
