Forensics regarding the cause of death are still pending in the John Starcher case, according to Sgt. Jeff Skidmore, commander of the Grantsville Detachment.

The decomposed body was found last September 5th on a small island in the West Fork River at Altizer near the mouth of Daniels Run.

Starcher was about 25-years-old.

Sgt. Skidmore said the body was a positive ID for Starcher.

"I have not received a report from the State Medical Examiner's office. The last contact I had with the ME office, the body was still at the Smithsonian Institute," Skidmore said.

"All evidence is still looking like the injuries were self-inflicted," he said.

A gun was found near the body, which was discovered by fishermen.

Family members said Starcher enjoyed exploring and camping in the woods, indicating they hope to have a service and burial when the investigation is completed.
