MARKS FAMILY STILL IN CAMC FOLLOWING ACCIDENT - Calhoun Youth Dies In Crash

(03/04/2008)
State Police say Joey Padgett, his age reported as about 17, was a passenger in a car driven by his mother, Janice Marks, 35, of Orma. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Padgett died from head trauma he received in a two-car collision over the weekend.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Stump Funeral Home.

Padgett's stepfather, Phillip Marks, received head injuries in the accident.

Phillip Marks is listed in fair condition today by a spokesperson at Charleston Area Medical Center and Janice Marks is still under evaluation.

State Police say the Marks vehicle was traveling south on State Rt. 16, south of Chloe at Stinson, when it was struck by a vehicle driven by Cody Clark, 16, of Chloe.

State Police say Clark's vehicle was going north when it left the right side of the road, saying Clark apparently overcompensated his vehicle, crossing the center line.

Clark, a student at Calhoun High School and a WV State Wrestling Champion, was treated and released from Minnie Hamilton Health System.

State Police say Nick Stevens, 17, of Big Bend, a passenger in the Clark vehicle, was uninjured.
