TEEN SUICIDE CONNECTED TO BREAK-IN - Four men are in jail and a 17-year-old is dead after a break-in in Wayne County.

Wayne County residents Jason Pack, 23; David Mathis, 21; Dustin Jenkins, 20; and Joseph Thompson, 18, were charged in a robbery attempt at a residence.

The four men were charged with felony daytime breaking and entering, along with felony first-degree robbery.

Wayne County Sheriff David Pennington said the arrest came after five people entered the home.

The owner of the residence came to the living room and confronted the men, after which at least one shot was fired.

Police determined that a 17-year-old juvenile, who was with the men, died of a self-inflicted wound.

The other men fled the scene on foot and were caught later.

FIGHT ENDS WITH STABBING - Reports say Wayne County sheriff's detectives caught up with Jonathan Brewer shortly after an alleged stabbing at a home on Jenny's Creek Road in the town of Crum in Wayne County.

Witnesses Kayla Durham ran to the home of Berry Copley on Jenny's Creek Road screaming for help early Friday morning.

Copley let her in just before Brewer showed up at the house and began banging on the back door, trying to gain entry.

Copley told Brewer to leave, but finally opened the door.

James Muncy says he witnessed the fight that followed between Brewer and Copley. Muncy says Brewer stabbed Copley after he promised to leave the house if Copley let him up.

Witnesses describe the weapon as a 12 inch long kitchen knife.

Jonathan Brewer is charged with malicious wounding and burglary.

BOILING POINT - Two men apparently shot each other in a gunfight in Boone County.

Sheriff Rodney Miller says Maxel Long and his brother Leslie Long had a long running dispute with David Michael Jarrell.

That dispute led to gunfire.

"It appears as though Jarrell was driving to his home and was confronted by the Long brothers," said Miller. "Jarrell was shot by Leslie Long, then Jarrell returned fire from his vehicle at Leslie Long and struck him in the neck. Then he was approached by our victim and he was fired upon as well."

The 39-year old Maxel Long was killed instantly by the gunshot.

Leslie Long and Jarrell remain hospitalized.

"There's a potential for Jarrell on a murder charge. There's a potential for the surviving Long brother if he's deemed to have instigated this which puts him in a potential felony murder situation," said Miller.

Miller says the details of the case are extremely confusing.
