Gilmer County three-point shots were pouring down as fast and furious as the snow falling outside the Damon L. West Gymnasium Tuesday night and the result was a 76-41 Gilmer County victory over Calhoun County in the Class A Section 2, Region 4 tournament semifinals.

With the win Gilmer County advances to play Wirt while Calhoun ends its season at 0-23.

The Titans, now 14-9, had 13 three-point goals including six by James Farley, the game's leading scorer with 25. Daniel Delude also had three three-point goals and finished with 12 while burly William Ratliff had 14 from inside.

Senior Andrew Norman with 18 led Calhoun. Sophomores Justin Gerwig and Chuck Kendall added nine each and senior Josh Cain chipped in with five.

Tyler Bennett, Cai Clothier, Harold McCumbers, Daniel Sims, Anthony Richards and Greg Myers all played but did not score.

Calhoun scored first to take a 2-0 lead but Gilmer came back with 10 straight before the Red Devils launched a comeback cutting the lead at the end of the first quarter to 12-8.

That, unfortunately, was the high water mark for the Red Devils as the Gilmer three-point blitz began behind the long range bombing of Farley.

When the smoke had cleared Gilmer had outscored Calhoun 25-10 for a comfortable 37-18 lead.

But Calhoun would not go away and on several occasions in the third quarter seemed to make a run at the Titans.

But the lead was still at 19 at the end of three.

In the fourth quarter with both teams substituting freely the Titans pulled away to the final margin.
