KANAWHA JURY AWARDS $300,000 AGAINST GINO'S

(02/27/2008)
A Kanawha County jury awarded a Buffalo woman $300,000 Tuesday, for intentional infliction of emotional distress suffered on the job at the Kanawha County offices of Better Foods, Inc.

Better Foods is the parent company for Gino's and Tudor's Biscuit World, owned by former State Senator Oshel Craigo.

Anna Reynolds, a former clerk in the Better Foods sales department, sued the company in 2006 based on physical and verbal abuse she says she received from her supervisor.

The jury awarded Reynolds $100,000 as compensatory damages for her mental distress, which included what she alleged to be an actual physical assault in a small office at the Better Foods site which caused visible injuries to her face and head.

She was also awarded $200,000 as punishment against Better Foods.

Reynolds testified that she had reported the ongoing abuse to Better Foods' management, but insufficient steps were taken to fix the situation.
