A 103-YEAR-OLD CALHOUN TEACHER HAS DIED

A former Calhoun school teacher has died at 103.

Pauline Hays Kelley, formerly of Mt. Zion, passed away Tuesday at the Willows Center in Parkersburg.

She was a retired school teacher having taught in one of Calhoun's one-room schools, Deep Valley on Barnes Run.

Her late husband Ernest, a well-known Calhoun teacher, died in 1975. They were operators of Kelley's Store at Mt. Zion. She was a member of the DAR, Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and Rebecca Lodge.

She was born in Calhoun County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Perry C. and Lily Rose Stump Hays.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Richard L. Kelley of Parkersburg, Catherine L. Reed of Vienna and Phillip H. Kelley of Parkersburg, also and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard H. Kelley, three sisters, Janice Crumley, Geraldine Perrin and Bernice Hays; and one niece, Dr. Ellen H. Perrin.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with the Rev. Rich McClure officiating.
