SUPER BOWL PARTY SPOILED IN CLAY

(02/07/2008)
It was a fitting gathering for the historic Henry Clay Hotel in Clay.

The hotel's 80-year run ended Sunday with a community gathering, the doors opened a last day for a Super Bowl Party.

There was lots of free food and fellowship at the bar that has long been frequented by the best and worst of Clay countians over all these years.

About 11 p.m., 30-year-old Lorenza Albert Carte (left) stole owner King Arthur Jarret's '84 Bronco and went on what appeared to be a joy ride.

Jarrett has been the mayor of Clay.

Fleeing in the vehicle, Carte stopped at the Big Otter Exxon, filled up with gas and left without paying, according to the Clay Communicator.

He reportedly repeated the stolen gas trick one more time, after which he started weaving across the center line and was arrested in Grafton.
