Waldo Nichols, 72 - Spencer

Waldo Nichols, 72, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, in the CAMC-Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was born Sunday, May 19, 1935, at Linden, a son of the late Clark Thomas and Delphia Cottrell Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Miller; eight sisters, Lenore Frame, Blondena Browning, Sally Goodwin, Rosalee Daugherty, Diane Harris, Patsy Nida, Virginia Pence and Peggy Nichols; two brothers, Lowell Thomas Nichols and David Nichols.

Waldo was a timberman and a farmer. He was president of B-W Timber and W-B Farm, Spencer. Waldo was an avid deer hunter, lifelong resident of Roane County and had attended the Epling Chapel Baptist Church, Looneyville.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Billie Anna Potts Nichols of Spencer; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Millie Nichols, Mitchell and Debbie Nichols, all of Spencer; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Nichols-McCarty and Judge Charles McCarty of Spencer; son-in-law, Steven C. Miller of Elizabeth; one brother, John Nichols of Looneyville; one sister, Shirley Goodwin of Looneyville; nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Harry Riddle officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.

Friends may call Saturday, after 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
