Calhoun County Lady Devils now 1-16 picked up the first victory of the season for Calhoun County basketball Saturday by pulling the upset against a very tough Parkersburg Christian School (6-4) at the St. Mary's Invitational Tournament.

The Lady Red Devils and the Lady Knights kept it a pretty close game during the first half. Calhoun led 6-5 after the first quarter and then stretched the lead to 4 at the half with a score of 16-12.

However when the two teams took the court after the half, Kristin Ballengee was able to take advantage of the turnovers from the Lady Knights and run the court to get easy buckets under the basket. Calhoun pulled away during the third quarter of action by scoring 21 points to extend the lead 37-20. Calhoun finished the game with a strong showing in the final stanza by scoring 14 to put an end to the winless season with the final score of 51-31.

Calhoun was lead by All-Tournament player Kristin Ballengee with 17 points, 14 of which came during that monstrous third quarter. Chelsey Ball backed Ballengee with 9, while Stephanie Stacy had 7 with her All-Tournament selection. Additional scoring provided for Calhoun by Amie Carilli with 6, Emily Brady and Michaela Yoak added 4, and Amara Yoak and Karissa Reip had 2 apiece.

The Lady Red Devils return to action Tuesday at Roane County and then host Clay County on Thursday, a game that was originally scheduled for Friday Feb. 1st.
