The fifth 2007-2008 Saturday Fun and Learning Day sponsored by Heads Up, GEAR UP and the Parent-Educator Resource Center was held on Saturday, January 12th at Calhoun Middle-High School.

Breakfast was served to all participants and then parents attended a session conducted by the Parent-Education Resource Center entitled Loving Guidance. Vickie Baker from the West Virginia Department of Education spoke to the parents about Internet safety.

Each parent received information including a bookmark donated by Sheriff Carl Ballengee. Each child received a coloring book about Internet safety also donated by Sheriff Ballengee.

Students enjoyed activities in the gym while their parents were in training. The children and their parents spent the rest of the morning creating scrapbooks utilizing the pictures that are taken of each child on Saturday Fun and Learning Days.

There were approximately 80 students and 62 adults in attendance on Saturday with the following parents winning door prizes, $20 Pit Stop gift cards from Heads Up - Brenda Clawson, Becky Kenner, Melissa Keener and Ora Rush. Charles Metz won a bird feeder and supplies donated by Gear Up.

Parents and children attending five of the eight sessions are eligible for a trip to Idlewild Park on May 31, 2008.

The next Saturday Fun and Learning Day is Saturday, February 9th.
