28,000 WEST VIRGINIANS GETTING CORRECTED SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENTS

(01/23/2008)
The Social Security Administration is mailing revised benefit statements to more than 27,700 West Virginians.

Their initial statements contained inaccurate amounts.

The error, nationwide, affected approximately 2.7 million beneficiaries. Revised statements, which are used for tax purposes, will be mailed through Friday, January 25.

The revised statement says in red type that it is a "corrected notice."

People who already have filed tax returns using the incorrect statements will have to file amended income tax returns.
