Francis Tanner and Freda Whytsell were recently surprised with a dinner in their honor at the VFW Hall in Grantsville.

Francis is president and Freda is secretary of the Grantsville Post 5959 VFW Ladies Axillary.

Bob Yoak, VFW Chaplain, presented Francis and Freda with Ladies Auxiliary emblem pendants. Freda was also presented a certificate for outstanding dedication and volunteerism in helping other veterans.

Francis has been a member of the Auxiliary for the past nine years. She first served as secretary for three years and has been president for the past six years. Francis is in charge of organizing the annual Veterans Dinner held each year among all her other duties as president.

Freda is a seventeen year member. She has served as secretary for two years. She has also held other posts in the Auxiliary. Freda and her husband Paul schedule the van for local veterans to ride to the VA Hospital in Clarksburg for appointments. She makes sure all cards and gifts are received at the hospital. Freda also makes lap quilts and wheelchair coat bags for those in the hospital.

Each Friday you will see the two ladies volunteering, along with Linda Staton, Tina Hammick, Ernestine Ball, Shirley Ball, Judy Hays, and Marie Hays, preparing and delivering delicious meals as a fundraiser for the Auxiliary chapter.
