SMS PLACES IN WSAZ TOURNEY

At the WSAZ Invitational Wrestling Tournament held in Huntington this past weekend, the Spencer Middle School wrestling team finished in 17th place with 11 wrestlers and 75 points, out of a field of 43 middle school and junior high teams participating in the tournament.

At the top of the 90# food chain statewide, is Dylan Cottrell, placing 1st and undefeated for the weekend, and the season. Sam Whiting placed 3rd in a field of 44 wrestlers, with a (5 and 1) performance at 102#. Finishing 8th in a field of 43 wrestlers at 123# was Jacob Summers, with a (4 and 3) weekend.

Earning all of their contested wins by pinning their opponents, were Luke Hottle, Sam Lawson, and Michael McCumbers. Also wrestling for the Yellow Jackets were John Ash (0 and 1), Sean Blosser (0 and 1), Jacob Maldonado (2 and 2), Nathan Reynolds (1 and 2), and Colby Whiting (0 and 1).

For the weekend, Spencer's individual dual match record was (20 & 16), with 9 pins.

Individual dual match records for the season, to date, 264 wins and 171 losses.

On deck, the Spencer Middle School team will participate in the West Virginia Duals at Parkersburg High School January 25-27.
