CMS COMPETING AT WSAZ INVITATIONAL

Calhoun Middle School wrestling team is currently competing in the 2-day, 30th annual WSAZ Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Huntington, WV at the Big Sandy Civic Arena.

Competition was tough on day one. Calhoun's David Overbay was up in the 64 man bracket and lost to Rollyson of Hurricane.

Starting in the 32 man bracket was Jean Blair, Levi Gordon, Justin Yoak, Seth Wease, Jared Haught, Cory Metz, Thomas Smith and Cody Starcher.

Advancing to the 16 man bracket was Jean Blair pinning Polgar from Western Greenbrier, Justin Yoak pinned Farley of Barboursville, Jared Haught pinned May of Huntington and Cory Metz pinned Jewell of Wahama.

Winners in the 16 man brackets were Blair by pinning Gross of Braxton, Yoak pinned Armbrester of Milton, Haught pinned Stewart of Point Pleasant and Metz in a 6-1 decision over Owens from Independence.

Advancing into the 1st round consolations was Cody Starcher who lost to Hamrick of Robert Bland.

Day 2 wrestling will start again this morning at 10 a.m.
