SMS WRESTLING INVITATIONAL RESULTS

The Spencer Middle School wrestling team finished in 2nd place with 23 points, out of 10 teams participating in the Spencer Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday January 12.

Also placing in the tournament was Wirt in 1st place with 27 points, Wahama in 3rd place with 22 points, and Calhoun in 4th place with 20 points. Also participating were Braxton, Dupont, John Adams, Williamstown, and All Stars "A" & "B".

Going undefeated for the Yellow Jackets in 1st place were Dylan Cottrell and Sam Whiting at (5-0); 2nd place at (4-1) was John Ash, Luke Hottle, Jacob Maldonado, and Nathan Reynolds; 3rd place was Jacob Summers at (4-1); finishing in 4th place was Sam Lawson at (3-2). Also wrestling from Spencer were Matt Bell, Michael Branard, Michael McCumbers(2-2), Shay Parrish (2-2), and Colby Whiting(2-2).

Earning all of their contested wins by pinning their opponents, were Shay Parrish and Nathan Reynolds. Reynolds, a first-year wrestler, is currently on a "pin-to-win" streak; excluding forfeits, all 12 matches he has won this season, have been won by pinning his opponent.

"Most Outstanding Wrestler," as voted on by the coaches, was Spencer's Sam Whiting, wrestling at 102 lbs.

For the weekend, Spencer's individual dual match record was (39-18), with 17 pins.

Individual dual match records for the season, to date, 244 wins and 155 losses.

On deck, the Spencer Middle School team will participate in the WSAZ Wrestling Invitational in Huntington, January 18th and 19th.
