CALHOUN HIGH'S MCKELVEY SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The McKelvey Foundation has been awarding college scholarships to Calhoun High School seniors since 2002.

The Foundation has announced the six students pictured above as scholarship recipients for 2008. Each recipient will receive up to $3,000 per year to attend a four year accredited college or university in the state of West Virginia.

Scholarship criteria included: Be the first generation to attend college; Have a financial need; Show involvement in work and/or extra curricular activities
Complete an online application; Attend a 4-year college within their home state

The recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA and attend a mandatory 1 day seminar during the spring/summer as an orientation to college and the Foundation. Along with the $3,000 per year for 4 years each scholar may receive $2,500 for a study abroad program.

The McKelvey Foundation was created to offer young people the benefits of a college education without the burden of debt many students face after graduation. The McKelvey Foundation will award 125 scholarships to high school seniors in 2008. All in all, the Foundation currently supports over 600 students achieving a better future.
