PROSECUTOR REGRETS DROPPING SOME COUNTS AGAINST FORMER CHIEF GORDON

Grantsville's former police chief Ron Gordon, 57, will be serving at least 3-15 years in jail, consecutive sentencing, and once he is released on parole, he will be monitored for the next 25 years.

He is required to register as a sex offender.

It appeared he will be credited with a few months for time he served on home confinement.

Gordon plead guilty to three charges of first-degree sexual abuse in early November, reducing the number of charges against him.

Special prosecutor Tom Kirk, speaking to the Parkersburg News, said he regretted dropping some of the counts, and should have gone after maximum time for Gordon.

Kirk told the Parkersburg paper that Gordon's crimes had victims ranging in age from 10 to 47.

Kirk, a retired state trooper whose son and father also serve in law enforcement, said Gordon's crimes were worse by the fact he was a police officer.

He served as a police chief for two years, and was the county's home confinement officer.

"We all share in some of the shame he brought on those of us with a badge," he said.

Kirk told the News that Gordon failed to apologize or accept responsibility for his crimes.

"There were a number of police officers, including the (Calhoun County) prosecutor, who got the ball rolling in this case," Kirk said.

Kirk declined to return phone calls regarding the case to the Herald.
