Mount Run family escapes into frigid winter weather

By Bob Weaver

A Mount Run family lost their home and all their possessions this morning as fire swept through a mobile home.

Melissa Brown was asleep with her two children, Shaun, 6, and Nicholas, 2, when she heard a smoke detector go off.

"I got my kids and got out, the place was filled with smoke," Brown said.

Brown said "All we have is what we have on."

Brown's husband, Wesley, was at work when the fire broke out.

The blaze quickly spread through the structure and was essentially on the ground when firemen arrived.

Firemen respond to Mount Run blaze

Firemen from the Arnoldsburg and Upper West Fork Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the call on slick highways about 9:30 a.m. The temperature was hovering just above 14 degrees.

Members of the Knicley family arrived on the scene and were able to pull a propane gas tank away from the dwelling.

Mount Run is off Nicut Road, in a remote area not far from the Gilmer-Braxton line.

Cash money, clothing, furniture and appliances are needed. You can help by calling Brown's father, Ronnie Keen at 304-286-2192.
