Welcome back to Beason, which is somewhere between here and there.

First, we would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family who lost a child in the accident earlier this week. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

No law enforcement was needed during the holidays here on Beason. So, I guess that's a plus. I am sure you have heard or read about some families losing it over the season. Their fights are a little more advanced than the typical family holiday fuss. For example, by brothers used to bring up the last fifteen hair colors/ styles I have had during Christmas dinner.

I so used to enjoy rehashing all those painfully bad cosmetic choices. But, I know big brothers are allowed to do this as it is in their job description. I am certain they were handed this document at my birth. No doubt in my mind they were overjoyed that the job was limitless. However, the teasing does not qualify me to begin a game of "Dodge the Lead."

Birthday wishes go out to Mike Taylor on December 27th. I think he was 29 (again). Happy birthday also goes out to Anne Monterosso. I think she is going to be 39 (again) on December 31.

Junior Taylor is to have cataract surgery this week. Perhaps after this surgery, we can plan on home dialysis again. So, may the force be with us in 2008!

I believe Santa and his crew were overly generous to my boys this year. I was thinking to myself, "Apparently Santa had not been aware of all the fighting going on in this home at 6:30 a.m. every day of vacation." They received an ice cream maker in a ball. One puts ingredients in the ball and it rolls around on the floor for awhile. You do some stirring and roll it again. Anyway, Avery has been on me to do ice cream since he opened the package. I hate to use bribery with my children, but this recent wrestling match had called for it. I told Avery we would make the ice cream if he behaved at the Lubeck match. I knew it was going to be a long day and it wasn't going to be pretty.

The thing about Avery is he doesn't forget anything someone says. At times, he has selective hearing, but most of the time he is right on top of things. He sat at the tourney like an angel. Everyone thought I had the most well behaved child there. I just told them all this was very abnormal behavior for Avery. When he wants ice cream, Avery means business!

Some of the Huffman gentlemen from Lewisburg came to Ritchie County. They joined us for the Lubeck Duals at Blennerhasset Junior High School. Ethan likes to have fans at his tourneys. Ethan and his team worked really hard at the tournament. They all need a pat on the back for their efforts. There were great teams that were very difficult to beat.

I do want to point out there is something to be said for girls who wrestle. At first, I wasn't a big supporter of this at all. Since then, I have witnessed more and more they are fully capable of whipping some butt. There were two girls at this match that I would have forfeited had I been assigned to wrestle them.

One of them made an excellent wrestler on another team cry (we've had experience with this kid.) They came to the match out for blood. I do have one small issue. For future reference, if one is wearing a white singlet, please prepare for this accordingly. Although nobody was there to make a fashion statement, some things just do not belong under white.

May 2008 bring us all bigger smiles and brighter days.
