(10/12/2001)
A two-year-old girl was struck Thursday evening by an auto near her grandparents Sugar Camp residence, about one mile from Yellow Creek Road. Family members said the child sustained an injury to the head, among other possible injuries.

Family members identified the child as the daughter of Kristin Jones, about 21. The grandparents are Nick and Terry Jones.

She was administered trauma care by Calhoun EMS, and shortly after flown to Women's and Children's Hospital in Charleston by Health Net. A report on her condition was not available last night.

Family sources said the driver of the vehicle was newly licensed. They indicated the child was attempting to cross the highway when she was struck.
