WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Major Shoot-Out In Charleston

(12/08/2007)
Multiple shootings in Charleston early today has ended with one person dead, one critical and several injured.

The shootings took place on the East Side and the West Side of town about 3:30 a.m.

Charleston police have arrested 18-year-old Antonio Jefferies and 20-year-old Charles Moore, charging them with first degree murder in the death of Andrew Smoot, age 20.

It happened outside the American Legion Club when someone shot Emmanuel McCarty and Desmond Clark.

A friend of one of the victims followed the shooter to his home in the 1500 block of Washington Street East, when police say Smoot was shot and killed.

Problems then shifted to 1700 Kemp Avenue where Moore and McCarty were involved in a drive-by shooting where several shots were fired.

No victims have been reported from that shooting, yet.

Desmond and Emmanuel are at CAMC General with serious injuries.

Police say Moore was wearing a bullet proof vest when he was arrested. Officers also say in the car where Moore and Jefferies were found, they found a Tec-9mm.

The criminal complaint says Desmond Clark, Emmanuel McCarty, Charles Moore, and Antonio Jefferies were all hanging out together at the club prior to the shooting.
