BRAXTON MAN KILLED ON COX'S WELL SERVICE RIG

(12/05/2007)
A 19-year-old Braxton county man was killed while working on a gas drilling rig in Boone County.

The man died Tuesday morning after a pole on the rig collapsed, hitting him in the head.

The accident happened in Wharton.

Sue Barazi with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) says the worker was exiting a hole when a derrick pole on a drilling rig collapsed, hitting and killing him instantly.

Barazi says the worker was with Cox's Well Service Oil & Gas out of Spencer.

WSAZ contacted Cox's Well Services about the accident.

They reported John Wilson, a spokesperson with the company, said his thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the company is doing all that it can to cooperate with OSHA's investigation.

The company is waiting for the victim's family to be notified before releasing the name.

No one else was hurt in the accident.
