Four people were injured when a car and wrecker collided in a sharp turn on Rt. 16 south of Chloe Monday afternoon, with the vehicles catching on fire.

The driver of the car sustained serious injuries including a fractured leg and was life-flighted from Upper West Fork Park to Charleston Area Medical Center. He was identified as Roger Jones, 38, of Arnoldsburg.

Also taken to CAMC by ambulance was Kim Tanner, about 24, of Arnoldsburg and Jones' son, 15-year-old Rodrea Jones.

The King wrecker driver from Clay was identified as Jack Schastall, 39. He was also taken to CAMC for evaluation. The wrecker was towing a vehicle.

Calhoun Sheriff Carl Ballengee said he had not interviewed the drivers, indicating "the investigation is ongoing."

Ballengee said a fire erupted shortly after impact.

"They were lucky to get out of the vehicle quickly," he said.

The Upper West Fork VFD dispatched a pumper to the scene at 1:44 p.m., south of Chloe near the intersection of Walker Road.

Calhoun EMS dispatched two ambulances, Minnie Hamilton Health System dispatched one ambulance and Clay County dispatched two ambulances.

Furr's wrecker service dispatched three wreckers. While hauling the car, fire erupted around the engine block and the Arnoldsburg VFD was called to put out the blaze.
